THOMAS PORTER CRAPPS
Mr. Crapps is a civil trial lawyer whose practice involves family law matters, wills and probate, personal injury, and wrongful death cases. Mr. Crapps also specializes in appeals.
Mr. Crapps received his Bachelor of Science from the College of William and Mary in 1985 and graduated from the University of Florida College of Law in 1990. Mr. Crapps received the American Jurisprudence Award for Professional Responsibility in the Fall of 1989.
Prior to entering the University of Florida College of Law, Mr. Crapps had the distinct privilege of serving as a Legislative Aid to the Honorable Claude Pepper, U.S. Representative, from 1986 to 1987.
Mr. Crapps was admitted to The Florida Bar in 1991. He is admitted to practice in all state courts in Florida, including the Florida Supreme Court. Mr. Crapps is also admitted to practice in the United States District for the Northern District of Florida, the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit in Atlanta, and the United States Supreme Court.
Mr. Crapps began his legal career as a law clerk for Justice Major B. Harding of the Florida Supreme Court from 1991 until 1993. Mr. Crapps served as Assistant Attorney General, in the Criminal Appeals and Tax Divisions from 1993 to 1996; and, as Assistant General Counsel, in the Executive Office of the Governor, under the late Governor Lawton Chiles from 1996 to 1999.
Mr. Crapps entered private practice in 1999 with the Douglass Law Firm as partner with W. Dexter Douglass. Mr. Crapps has conducted an extensive motion practice in both state and federal courts, and has filed numerous appellate briefs for cases in the federal Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals and in the Florida First District Court of Appeals.
Mr. Crapps is rated "AV" by Martindale-Hubbell and is a member of the American Bar Association, the Tallahassee Bar Association, the American Inns of Court, and The Florida Bar. He is also a member of the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers.
Mr. Crapps is married and has three children. He has raised money for numerous religious and charitable causes including the United Way. Mr. Crapps is a member of the Rotary Club of Tallahassee and he is a Sunday School Teacher.
